Outline:
Embark on a transformative professional development experience with Fostering Resilience and Functional Recovery in Patients, a dynamic two-hour session for naturopathic doctors committed to enhancing their clinical impact. Drawing inspiration from the extraordinary mental resilience, adaptability, and discipline cultivated by Special Operations Forces (SOF), this presentation explores how their proven psychological frameworks can serve as a model for strengthening patients’ mental health and emotional regulation.
Participants will discover how these strategies transcend conventional symptom management—empowering patients to cultivate durable psychological strength, purpose, and self-efficacy. This session will highlight the synergistic value of integrating these insights alongside both conventional mental health treatments (such as counseling and psychopharmacology) and naturopathic modalities (including therapeutic lifestyle changes, clinical nutrition, and botanical medicine).
10:45-10:50 am: Discuss the reason behind the topic/subject and provide a brief global overview of its relevance to naturopathic mental health (i.e., patient care).
10:50-11:00 am: Individuals who work as SOF possess the mental attributes necessary for the stressful and high-risk work they perform. In stark contrast, the mental attributes of individuals struggling with emotionally based disorders, such as anxiety and/or depression, are at the opposite end of the mental attribute spectrum. Broadly explain these differences.
11:00-11:25 am: Discuss some known individuals from the SOFs, how key mental attributes or psychological strength were identified, including their direct applicability to naturopathic mental health.
11:25-11:45 am: Explain each of the mental attributes or psychological strengths (e.g., Goal Setting and Discipline, Resilience and Mental Fortitude, Learning and Continuous Improvement, Adaptability and Problem Solving, Stress Management and Coping, and Preparation and Planning).
11:45 am – 12:15 pm: Review evidence-based strategies or techniques to bolster each of the noted psychological strengths to assist individuals diagnosed with emotional-based disorders.
12:15-12:45 pm: Review specific therapeutic lifestyle changes, nutraceuticals, and botanical medicines that assist with psychological strength while promoting symptoms management and improved functionality.
