Description
Outline:
As regulated health professionals, it is imperative that registrants of the College are mindful and aware of their regulatory responsibilities. Failure to do so can result in harm to patients, damage to the reputation of the profession, and/or disciplinary proceedings for the registrant.
I will commence the presentation by setting out the role and purpose of the College. This will help registrants to understand the statutory nature of the College and that they are expressly required to regulate, and not advocate for, the profession. (30 minutes)
I will then turn to three issues that are relevant to practitioners and use recent case law to explain these principles and how they can ensure compliance with the College:
- The duty to co-operate with College investigations (30 minutes)
- The awareness that third parties (and not merely patients) can complain about them to the College (30 minutes)
An explanation as to why private conduct still falls within the jurisdiction of the College (30 minutes)
