Outline:
We will review the interplay between inflammation, the microbiome and neurodegeneration as it relates specifically to MS to perpetuate the pathology and how do we join the old with the new to provide long-term solutions to halt and even reverse the progression of this condition.
In this course, we will address in detail:
- autoimmunity as it is seen in the most current literature
- the microbiome – specifically how the loss of intestinal permeability leads to autoimmunity
- the ENS – CNS (gut-brain) connection – including vagal and HPA activation
- chronic inflammation as a systemic phenomenon with local manifestations
- the role of the chronic stress response in MS why it happens and what it does
- clinical approaches to reduce inflammation through diet (will include dietary supplements), lifestyle (with a focus on self-care activities), exercise and movement, and mind-body & spirit
